WELCOME TO THE
REGIONAL CENTRE FOR
SURVEILLANCE AND DISEASE CONTROL
In recent years, ECOWAS member states have faced extraordinary burdens from outbreaks of infectious diseases. The Regional Centre for Surveillance and Disease Control (RCSDC) was created as an Agency under the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) to improve preparedness and response efforts against future public health emergencies across all ECOWAS member states.
Lessons learned from the 2014-2016 Ebola response demonstrated clearly that risk communications, community engagement and behavioural change helped prevent additional Ebola infections and further spread of disease. As part of WAHO’s mission to strengthen health systems throughout the region, the RCSDC places a high priority on risk communication. On behalf of the RCSDC, I welcome you to our platform, and I invite you to integrate risk communication into your activities.
